What you kept

21.5¢ per gallon
Net of card fees and freight, across 473,809 gallons. That is $101,869 kept on fuel over the period.

What you keep
21.5¢
Card fees took $32,616.11 over the period — about 24% of your gross margin. They land on next month's statement, which is why every day looks better than it was.

By grade

Cents per gallon, over the 90 days with complete files. Cost is the weighted average of what was actually in the tank when the fuel sold, with tax stripped out of both sides.

The all-grades line is the volume-weighted average of the rows above it, so the column and the total agree. Avg pump is the most recent day.

Net margin, day by day

Ranged 19.0¢ to 24.3¢ across the period. The swings are wholesale moving under a pump price you only change when it is worth re-signing.

Cost in tank is what the gallons actually in the ground were bought for, delivered. When the next load comes in under that, you see the gap the morning it opens and decide whether to cut price, hold margin, or time the order. When it comes in over, holding margin is the play.
Midgrade has no tank of its own — it is blended at the dispenser from 70% R1 and 30% P1. Its cost is the mix of those tanks, and selling it draws down both.

Deliveries checked against the tank gauge

77 of 79 deliveries matched the gauge inside your 0.5% tolerance.

short Aug 4, 2026 · BOL BOL-44148 · D1 Diesel · 98 gal short, $365.34 at delivered cost
unverified Aug 9, 2026 · BOL BOL-44333 · D1 Diesel · no tank gauge reading for this delivery
The gauge is compared against gross gallons on the bill of lading, not net. Net gallons are corrected to 60°F and the gauge is not, so comparing them would invent a shortage on every warm day.

How this was worked out

  • Cost is what was in the tank. Each delivery blends into a weighted average per tank, so the fuel that sold on a given day is costed at what it was actually bought for, not at that day's rack price.
  • Deliveries land before that day's sales. A load that arrived mid-afternoon therefore lowers the whole day's cost basis by a few tenths of a cent. The alternative overstates the basis on exactly the days you are deciding whether to cut price.
  • Tax comes out of both sides. Excise tax is collected and remitted, so it is neither revenue nor cost. Card fees are the exception: the processor charges on the full swipe, tax included.
  • Card fees are attributed by day. The statement is monthly, so its effective rate is applied to each day's own card dollars rather than spread evenly across the month.
  • Rounding. Each line is shown to a tenth of a cent and net is the subtraction of those shown lines, so the column always adds up.
Excise tax rates used, per gallon. Please check these against your own invoices — if a rate is wrong, your margin is wrong by exactly that much.
